Caregiver Question: (Organic) Quality Baby Food Suggestions? May 16, 2009

Hi All,

In Korea it is often difficult to find food that is difficult to find pre made quality baby food, much less organic baby food.  In an online search, I found that GMarket called “Earth’s Best” . I want to give my kiddo good healthy food, even when I don’t have time to make it.  I was wondering if anyone has any advice on where to quality baby food (preferably organic)?  Also, some tips for maybe preping food a head of time for quick fixes might also be good. If you do, please post them below.

Thanks so much!!

Caregiver Question: Tips for co-sleepers? April 20, 2009

I never really entertained the idea of co-sleeping until my husband suggested it today, so now I’m wavering between co-sleeping and using a crib.

For those of you that co-sleep (and share a bed with another adult), did/does this person share the bed with you (right from the start) or did/does s/he sleep somewhere else so the baby wouldn’t wake them?

For general co-sleepers, what do you do about naps? Once your baby could/can roll over how did/will you make sure that they didn’t/doesn’t roll off the bed? Do you have to nurse or rock your baby to sleep or does s/he just lay down and sleep? At what age do babies generally transition to a toddler bed, mattress, or yo (floor mat)?

Caregiver Question: Too much “yellow dust”? April 8, 2009

Hi,
The last few days the yellow dust level has been ‘moderate’ …. I stayed indoors (which was somewhat pointless anyway because the air inside the apartment came through the window from outside).  Yet, when I went on an outing last night, I noticed some people had their doors propped open and even more people were outside…despite the yellow dust “warnings”.
Last night I had to go out and buy water, and I had to take the kiddo with me because my husband is away this week. They had the door propped open at the shop and there were a bunch of people walking around, and I was like, Oh, maybe moderate level dust isn’t so bad ….

I feel a bit dumb asking this but  Am I being too paranoid staying indoors during ‘moderate’ yellow dust?
I think eventually I’ll have to go out in ‘moderate’ yellow dust — otherwise I may be stuck inside the house continuously for a couple of weeks! When is it safe…or not safe to bear the winds of yellow dust?

Hi Everyone
We’re planning a surprise 2 month vacation soon!! Although I’m very excited about introducing the kiddo to our family,  I am apprehensive about the 27+ hours journey to get there because he will be just about 4 months when we travel.

Any words of advice?

Caregiver Question: When to get in the swim? March 9, 2009

My kiddo is about 12 weeks now and I was wondering when is a good time to take her swimming without scaring her? She can hold her head up fairly well now and I will carry her on my shoulder so I can keep her head elevated in case she is tired. But I am worried about her getting a cold (amongst other things).

The pool I will take her to has a constant temperature (not warm but cool) but even for me when I go in, I need to swim to warm up. I am also worried she will get water in her ear and be uncomfortable. Is she too young? As much as I want to take her swimming it’s like a minefield for a first time mother!

Please share your experiences. Thanks.

Caregiver Questions: Translating Infant Clothing Sizes February 26, 2009

I’m getting ready to do some major baby clothes shopping as soon as my tight-lipped OB lets me know for sure what Kung Fu Baby’s gender is (At my 15 week ultrasound in the US, the tech said she was 90% sure it’s a girl, but that it was still early so don’t buy pink until a later u/s could confirm. )

ANYWAY…

I’ve noticed that many baby clothes are sized by number rather than months (75, 80, 90, etc.) Any mamas want to clue me in on what number correlates to what size?

Any thoughts/ideas on cars/things aspects to consider?? We’ll probably be able to chance around April, but I need to get ideas and thoughts on this to even start the search!

Caregiver Question: Have you done baby modeling? January 18, 2009

I was wondering if anyone’s kids have done baby modeling here. One agent (Joey with About Models) told me that they pay 150,000 won for a 1/2 day print session, which seems really low to me. Does anyone know if this is standard? I think it would be fun to get some photos of my son for posterity or whatever, but I don’t want to put him through a bunch of grueling clothing changes (he’s not quite 2 yet, and I don’t want to overwhelm him). Anyway, I’m just curious~ not trying to turn my kid into the next McCauley Culkin!! ^~

Caregiver Question: Babies and humidifiers…good or bad? January 14, 2009

What’s the deal with babies and humidifiers? The nurses at the hospital said not to use one because they spread bacteria. Keunhae was over the other night and said that I should switch mine on, to get about 50% humidity. Using a humidifier makes sense to me because it’s so dry in here, but I’m confused.
